Buffalo Niagara Dental Meeting Offers MLMIC’s New Dental Risk Management Program

Earlier this year, MLMIC, in conjunction with the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA), launched a new Dental Risk Management Program: Managing Patient Expectations and Creating a Safe Environment of Care. Building upon MLMIC’s years of risk management and educational experience, this comprehensive program, designed specifically for dental professionals, offers invaluable insights and strategies to mitigate risks and protect your practice.

Join Frederick Wetzel, DDS, Brenna Gubala, Esq. and Elizabeth Ollinick from MLMIC’s Legal Department and Shelly Kriete, Risk Management Consultant, on Wednesday, November 6, from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. for this live program held at the Buffalo Convention Center.

New York State dentists who complete this course will be entitled to a 10% discount on their liability premiums for a three-year period from MLMIC Insurance Company. If you have not completed an approved Risk Management Program within the past three (3) years, you must take this course to continue to receive your discount. At the end of this course, you will receive a certificate of completion to submit to your malpractice carrier. Registrants who complete this course will be entitled to three (3) continuing education credits. Dentists will automatically receive three (3) lecture credits with the NYSDA Continuing Education Registry.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the common allegations and claims that are seen in dental malpractice.
  • Understand how New York’s statutes of limitations and tolls impact the potential for a malpractice claim.
  • Identify the various steps of the legal process and the dentist’s role in each step.
  • Review top traits of claims-free dentists.
  • Recognize the importance of a patient record in the defense of a malpractice case.
  • Analyze the positive and negative aspects of social media in dentistry.
  • Describe the appropriate use of social media in marketing.
  • Formulate approaches to address negative patient reviews posted online.
  • Identify the liability risks that can arise in routine patient care.
  • Understand the role of effective informed consent in reducing the incidence of malpractice claims.
