Cell Phone Use Poses Significant Risks in Healthcare Settings
Healthcare providers live and work in a world where cell phones have become a way of life. However, the personal use of cell phones poses a significant risk in healthcare settings as it may distract physicians and staff from the tasks at hand.
This risk of distraction can have potentially serious consequences for patient safety. As a result, MLMIC encourages facilities and physicians to examine the option of restricting the use of cell phones.
This is especially true in the operating room (OR). An article recently published in Kaiser Health News – “Do Cell Phones Belong in the Operating Room?” – examines issues related to cell phone use in the OR. You can read it here.
