MLMIC Releases Three Online CME Risk Management Modules
The latest additions to MLMIC’s series of Risk Management continuing medical education (CME) Modules are now available online. These three CME programs, derived from MLMIC’s Proactive Risk Management Follow-Up VII Program, share valuable guidance and insight on leading topics including patient-physician communication, documentation, patient safety and more.
Policyholders and employees can now access the following courses:
High Exposure Liability: An Interview with a Plaintiff’s Attorney – Parts I and II is a two-part course exploring high exposure liability claims with indemnity payments exceeding $1M. A physician expert and a prominent plaintiff’s attorney review the key factors considered by plaintiffs’ attorneys when evaluating a potential malpractice case. The program also addresses the areas of risk commonly identified in high exposure cases including errors in diagnosis, physician-to-physician communication, patient follow-up, and missing and altered medical records.
Follow-Up Procedures in the Office Practice features a discussion involving a risk management consultant, a physician expert, and an attorney specializing in healthcare law on the importance of follow-up in the office practice, and how the failure to do so can impact patient care and result in claims against physicians. Other discussion topics include the follow-up and communication of diagnostic test results and consultation reports, the importance of documenting all follow-up measures and handling of patients who choose to forego healthcare due to cost.
Pediatric Claims: Cause of Loss examines recent trends in pediatric claims including diagnostic errors, improper performance and medication errors. Physician experts present findings from the MPL Data Sharing Project and discuss the liability risks associated with treatment of pediatric patients. The importance of documentation is also reviewed, and strategies to improve patient safety, reduce liability risk, and improve the defensibility of claims, are provided.
These MLMIC-exclusive courses are available for completion online at any time with MLMIC CME+.
