Narcotic Prescribers Must Complete Mandatory CMEs Prior to July 1, 2017
New York State continues its efforts to reduce the abuse of opioid medications. The State now requires all narcotic prescribers to attend three hours of continuing medical education (CME) that address specifically designated aspects of prescribing controlled substances. These CMEs must be completed prior to July 1, 2017. The Department of Health’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement (BNE) has released a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document to assist physicians and other prescribers in meeting the requirements of this new section of the Public Health Law.
MSSNY recently distributed an email addressing the CME requirement, and MLMIC encourages all its insured physicians and other narcotic prescribers to comply with this new regulation.
